Nemie Schools again proved why it remains the primus inter pares among other schools when it organized a successful Sports Fiesta.
The Sports Event which was held on Thursday, March 17th, and was tagged “Breaking Boundaries” provided a platform for the students and pupils of Nemie Schools to display their latent abilities to their parents and audience.
In her speech, the Proprietress, Mrs. Nkechi C. Osagie told the audience present that the initiative behind the Sports Fiesta was to develop the students/pupils physically as well as in other spheres of human development. She assured the parents that the event would be a regular occurrence, after which she declared the event open in the most memorable fashion.
The Sports Event kicked off with a parade from the houses—the University of Nigeria (Green) House; the University of Calabar (Yellow); the University of Ibadan (Blue) House; the University of Lagos (Wine) House, and the University of Benin (Purple) House.
During the parade, the students transcended from a slow march to a quick march, accompanied by scintillating music from the School’s Live Band. After the parade, came the displays from all the houses which earned them resounding applause from the audience.
The event further witnessed races of 25, 50, 75, 100, and 200 meters respectively for the junior category as well as the senior category. For the races, the students/ pupils displayed amazing psychomotor skills as they competed for gold. The audience was enthralled.
The students were also at their best during the relay race, especially how they exchanged the batons with terrific dexterity as they raced towards the finishing line.
Aside from the races of various meters, the event also witnessed the High Jump. This category also earned jubilation from the audience as they were surprised to see the students display stupefying aerial skills and flexibility. The students overcame the barriers as they went for gold for their houses. Three students stood out during this category for the males; Osagie Praise and Ogungbe Samuel—both from the University of Lagos (Wine House) and Ogunsakin Elijah from the University of Calabar (Yellow House). The females in this category also performed wonders.
There was also the sack race, picking the ball game, and threading the needle race. For every category of games, the audience roused with applause. Indeed, the event showed well-wishers and the audience the various baggage Nemie had in stock for them.
The event also saw the invited schools compete in the relay race. The male category was won by Blueville School, while the female category was won by Livingspring school. The winners were awarded.
The Sports event also featured a 100m race for the parents—both male and female. The winners were also awarded.
There was also a race for the staff of Nemie School. Miss Ghaniyat won the female category, while Mr. Hassan won the male category. The Director of the School, Mr. Osagie Igbinigie promised cash prizes for the eventual winners as well as the runners-up.
University of Lagos (Wine) House Emerges Victorious
After the competition ended, the University of Lagos (Wine) House was declared the first-prize winner. Hearing this declaration made the students of this house jubilant. Presenting the award, the Director assured the students that their top performance would not go unnoticed as they would be recruited for inter-school sports competitions. The Director also announced a N30,000 cash prize for the House.
The House also won the Overall Best House. Presenting the award, the Proprietress prayed that the award would be the beginning of more greatness and achievements for the students and pupils.
The University of Nsukka (Green) House and the University of Calabar (Yellow) House were declared first and second runners-up respectively. The University of Benin (Purple) House and the University of Ibadan (Blue) House, were placed in the fourth and fifth position respectively.
The School management also appreciated the patrons and matrons who contributed to the success of the event through their various donations in cash and in kind.
Undoubtedly, the Sports Events showed the dynamism in the curriculum of Nemie Schools and how their students have been positioned to become global leaders in every aspect of human development.
